The need for better quality of life drives human civilization race through decades to  come up with new improved materials.Invention of plastics being one of them in twentieth century led a paradigm shift in manufacturing sector from conventional material based products to plastic based products on account of growing awareness to

• Reduce pressure on natural resources
• Improve energy efficiency
• Adopt innovative designs and other cost effective measures

But increasingly growing concern (misconception) about plastics and its usage world-wide is detrimental to the growth of this technological miracle. Anti-plastic campaigns have now become a fashion. Wrong messages about plastics and its impact on environment have been conveyed through various forums without actually bringing in the awareness of the judicious uses of plastics. SRI-TBI centre through its continual endeavor has been instrumental in not only trying to address related
environmental issues but also to find out the answer for managing the huge amount of waste produced by the packaging industries ensuring effective utilization and value addition of waste by :

• Supporting Government agencies, statutory bodies and Regulatory authorities in
  devising policies & programs promoting citizen participation and producers’ 
  responsibility in proper disposal & recycling of packaging materials.

• Helping bright individual and startup companies in setting up plants based on
  models including its integrated waste collection, segregation and recycling.

• Developing indigenous and eco-friendly technologies and transferring them to
   the  SMEs dealing with polymeric waste like recovery of liquid fuel/gas/
   hydrocarbons by feedstock/chemical recycling, use ofplastic wastes in       
   construction of asphalt road, scientific disposal of waste in cement kilns, process
   engineered fuel and utilization of new generation waste such as electronic waste.

In addition SRI-TBI is also active in the effective utilization of other waste like:

• Medical waste
• Agriculture waste
• Oils & lubricant waste
• Waste from metal, textile, paper & packaging industries.
